In their third year, Hogwarts students are asked to choose two subjects that they would want to study, kind of an elective.
Hermione, as we all know, is always wanting to learn more and more. Without a second thought, she didn’t choose just two subjects, she chose all the options available.
When the time table was prepared, some of her classes overlapped with each other. To coordinate with her studies, Professor McGonagall got her a Time Turner from the Ministry using Dumbledore’s recommendation. Hermione was made to swear that she wouldn’t use it for anything apart from her classes, until the end of the year, where she and Harry go back in time to help Sirius and Buckbeak escape.
