It was the first of its kind. Some may argue that it was similar to Seinfeld but those who have actually watched Friends know that that isn’t true.
It is the only one of its kind. Many sitcoms have tried to replicate the success of Friends but no show has been able to do so.
The friends from Friends make you think of your friends. There’s probably a Chandler in your group who is always sarcastic, a Phoebe who is always weird, a Monica who is a control freak, a Joey who is good with the ladies, a Ross who is a Geek and a Rachel who is well, like Rachel. That is why it is very easy to relate with these characters and it becomes fun to watch them.
The actors are great at playing their parts. The chemistry between the ensemble is really great. Joey and Chandler have one of the best bro-mance between them.
The writing is great. Even though the show has aged a bit, there isn’t a time that I don’t laugh while watching the show. I laugh and it doesn’t matter if I have watched a particular episode once, twice, or a hundred times. There are several jokes that viewers hadn’t caught on until 2020. (Yes, it took people a decade to realize some jokes from the show)
Even though the show has aged, it hasn’t aged like other shows. If you try to watch sitcoms from the 60’s, 70’s, or the 80’s, you’ll find it hard to laugh at them. However, people of all ages sill enjoy Friends even today. It gives you a slice of the life in the 90’s.
It’s a relatable show. Besides the fact that the characters are like our friends, the show is relatable because it is about the transition of people in their 20’s to their 30’s, the transition of friends into lovers, and into family.
And that is why it is the greatest sitcom of all time.
